Three Ways to Enjoy Chia Seeds
At first glance you may think these tiny black seeds are poppy seeds. Well, they are the ever so recently popular chia seeds. Though small, chia seeds pack a big punch. They are a rich source of nutrients and antioxidants, and they may also help lower your risk of heart disease and diabetes. All of the health benefits are just icing on the cake, because you can make some really tasty treats with chia seeds. Here are three great recipes to help you jump on the bandwagon.
Chocolate Coconut Energy Bars
via Wellness Mama
I was first introduced to chia seeds last year before I PCSed. Leslie graciously opened her home to let my husband, 13-year-old puppy Maggie May, and me stay with her after our house was packed up before we left. There were no rooms at the hotel on post, so she was a lifesaver.
While we were there, she offered us these delicious bars that had chia seeds and other delicious ingredients in them. Despite the nutritional aspect of the bars, the only thing that my husband and I were focused on consuming was the chocolate. We ended up enjoying these bars so much we almost wiped out Leslie’s complete stash. We also decided that once we completed our move back to the States, we would add chia seeds to our pantry list of items we needed to buy.
Easy Chia Seed Pudding
via A Beautiful Mess
Because chia seeds have recently gained popularity in the last few years, the number of recipes that include these seeds has skyrocketed. Chia seeds can be eaten raw or prepared in numerous dishes that include the pudding recipe that Michele shared in an InDependent Facebook post. Kimberly and her daughter loved the chocolate version.
Refrigerator Oatmeal
via The Yummy Life
In that same Facebook post, we asked you how you include the power punching seeds into your diet. Heather at Traveling Navy Wife suggested this overnight, no-cook refrigerator oatmeal that includes chia seeds. This make-ahead breakfast is great for a cooler alternative to hot cereal as the temperature warms up outside. And, with a variety of different flavors, there’s something to please everybody.
